YOGA CLASSES CARDIFF
AT VICTORIAN STUDIO IN CARDIFF BAY
According to the British Wheel of Yoga, yoga is a system of physical, mental and spiritual practices that originated in ancient India more than 5,000 years ago.
Some of the techniques include prāṇāyāma (breath control or “breathwork”) āsana (postures), relaxation, sound, and other meditation methods. Yoga is a sanskrit word translated as “yoke” or “union.” Its aim is to yoke or create a union of the body, mind, soul, and universal consciousness.
The “physical” part of yoga is only the beginning of what the practice can offer you in your life. If you are recovering from an injury, have a sedentary lifestyle, or suffer with physical pain and/or chronic stress and anxiety, the posture (āsana) and breathwork (prāṇāyāma) will be of great help with bringing the body into balance, along with meditation that will help calm a busy mind. Through regular yoga practice you will tone muscle, strengthen joints and increase bone density.
Yoga can help you find freedom from obstacles life may present to you and help ease past traumas by helping YOU understand YOURSELF physically, mentally and spiritually.
ANYONE CAN DO YOGA.
All are welcome and invited to our classes in Cardiff Bay.
We require all new students to arrive early on their first day of class to complete a health questionnaire and have a short discussion with the teacher prior to attending their first class.
We offer:
Yin Yoga
Hatha Yoga
Vinyasa Yoga
Yin is a cooling and contemplative practice. It works the deep network of fibrous tissues within the body, fascia, ligaments, tendons. This practice can help with realignment of the body and should be done when the muscles are cold. Students will hold varied poses for 3-5 minutes so the body can relax deeply, encouraging suppleness and working with the meridians and organs.
This is the YIN to the YANG.
YANG being the vinyasa/ dynamic style of yoga which targets muscles.
Students will experience a full body relaxation following a yin session.
These sessions are usually followed up with a short meditation a short meditation.
“Most forms of yoga in the West can be classified as Hatha Yoga. Hatha simply refers to the practice of physical yoga postures, meaning your Ashtanga, vinyasa, Iyengar and Power Yoga classes are all Hatha Yoga. The word “hatha” can be translated two ways: as “willful” or “forceful,” or the yoga of activity, and as “sun” (ha) and “moon” (tha), the yoga of balance. Hatha practices are designed to align and calm your body, mind, and spirit in preparation for meditation.”
This class is focused on building strength and experience in the foundations of Hatha Yoga. Students work to build confidence with correct positioning and alignment of asana (posture). Each class will have specific breathwork (basic breathing techniques or pranayama) that will build from class to class followed by a short relaxation or meditation. We will build from class to class, so ideally attending the whole course if there is one is beneficial.
This class will energise and promote relaxation.
This is a general/mixed abilities class. Modifications and variations are provided for all levels and all bodies.
Vinyasa means in Sanskrit: VIN = “to. place”, YASA = “in a special way” or in other words, “to. move with intention.” This is also a smooth transition. between asanas especially when the movement is. paired with breath, the movement in will be slow, soft and gentle to leave you feeling taller softer and refreshed when you leave. Each asana is held for longer than in conventional yoga, but you will be supported by props such as blocks or bolsters. We will first do the active stretch then followed by a passive stretch; this technique is called proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation technique (PNF). This will help improve flexibility and reset muscle length. The teacher will come around to check you are comfortable and possibly do an adjustment or massage if that is welcomed.
This class is perfect for all abilities, including beginners. We will use props such as bolsters, blankets, blocks, and straps.
This is a one-hour workshop taught by Danielle, who has over 12 years of experience and knowledge in massage therapy.
After completing this workshop, you will have the skills to give your partner, friend or family member a simple seated massage using the few techniques demonstrated. We will go over a few simple body mechanics, contraindications, and how to communicate with verbal and non-verbal feedback between the giver and receiver of the treatment. We teach this workshop only using a simple chair as most people don’t have massage tables laying around the house. This workshop can be booked for only 2 people or watch our timetable as we may run it on a Saturday afternoon. Cake and refreshments will be provided.
Please keep an eye on the timetable for the workshop if you fancy doing this in a group setting, or it can be booked for 2 people privately or for private events.
*Participants will not be a qualified massage therapist after taking this workshop. This is a taster workshop only.
