The aim of cupping is to create a “vacuum” to create a “negative pressure” instead of a positive pressure traditionally produced from massage. Cups are places over tight areas of muscles and fascia and can be used in different ways to achieve results. Cups can be used static, as glides or with compressed movements. Results achieved vary from easing muscle tension to lymphatic drainage.
We personally place deep tissue massage in a separate category between holistic massage and sports massage. Techniques used will be somewhat the same as used in a holistic massage and sports massage, but not as focused on a specific injury like sports massage. This treatment will focus on the general area and the therapist will use long deep strokes to target inner layers of muscles and connective tissue.
During the initial appointment for your Cardiff deep tissue massage I will do a full consultation that usually lasts between 10-20 minutes. We will decide whether would like me to do any tests on you or postural assessment. We will get a good idea after the consultation if the pain or achy muscles are over a more generally area or more localised, a posture assessment, ROM tests and other tests can determine a lot of things, but this is up to you if you would like this with your appointment. After all of this is discussed a treatment plan will be agreed. We will discuss both long term and short-term goals we would like to achieve. Towels and drapes will be provided. The therapist will leave the room while you get comfortable on the table. Please don’t hesitate to let your therapist know if you want more pressure, less pressure or to change the treatment plan. I will provide appropriate aftercare advice after the session.
